Telemetry Technology

Adcon A850 Gateway

The A850 Telemetry Gateway forms the heart of an Adcon monitoring system. The unit acts as a mid term storage device for data collected from Adcon’s UHF Radio and mobile phone based (GPRS) remote telemetry units (RTUs). The A850 communicates with the radio RTUs (A723, A724, A733 etc) via an A440 Wireless Modem, which should be installed on the building roof or atop a suitable mast. Data from the GPRS telemetry units is fed in via an Ethernet connection, from the provider’s broadband data service. Normally supplied as a complete base station (comprising the A850 Gateway, an A440 Wireless Modem and 30m communications cable), the A850 may be ordered separately if it is to be used only with the GPRS RTUs. The A850 Gateway supports multiple polling rate, allowing each RTU to be configured to log and return data at an interval suitable to the application. Data stored in the A850 may be retrieved using Adcon’s addUPI interface protocol. This interface is embedded in Adcon advantage Pro software and the specification is available to third parties for integration into their data acquisition software.

Adcon A723 addIT Series 4

Applications

Allround-Remote Telemetry Unit, extremely compact, extremely rugged, extremely low-power, Perfect for soil moisture monitoring, Makes an economical weather station

The new generation of the A723 addIT RTU has underwent a major power upgrade including more memory, 4-times the resolution, integrated SDI-12 adapter, 4-times better radio sensitivity, 30% more battery capacity and much more. This makes the addIT an extremely useful add-on to an A733 weather station, be it for soil moisture monitoring, the observation of temperature pockets, or for water level monitoring or meter reading.

Adcon A724 addSWITCH Series 4

A724 addSWITCH is an integrated device that lets you open and close up to 4 latching solenoids, and at the same time reads up to 4 water meters or irrigation gauges and 1 manometer sensor. Radio commands transmit instantly the ON-time and the run-time – no OFF commands are required.  The A724 addSWITCH can be integrated into existing Adcon A733 UHF radio networks. It is compatible with both the A840 and the A850 Telemetry Gateway.  The addTIMER software is designed to make best use of the addSWITCH’s features.

Adcon A753 addWAVE GPRS

Adcon’s A753 addWAVE GPRS is a flexible, high resolution, radio data logger suitable for use in applications which require transfer of data via the mobile telephone network. The A753 combines high resolution analogue and digital input capacity, with on board logging and an integrated Quad Band GSM Modem. Its features make it useful in environmental monitoring applications, where long distance communications and a high count of analogue and digital input channels are required.

The A753 GPRS is designed for rapid deployment in applications where the distance between sites, or the density of sites, precludes the use of radio communications. Load a SIM card, set up the basic communications parameters and the unit is ready for the field. The A753 GPRS may be used on the conventional GSM network or on Telstra’s NextG (GSM850) service. If GPRS services are not available, the transfer can occur over a dialup connection.

Adcon A755 addWAVE GPRS SDI

Adcon’s A755 addWAVE GPRS SDI has been designed as a low cost logger for applications as soil moisture monitoring and remote meter reading. The unit is fitted with a pulse input for connection to flow meters or rain gauges and an SDI-12 input which can be connected to any SDI-12 compatible sensor.  The A755 sends the collected readings back to an Adcon base station using the mobile telephone network (conventional GSM network or on Telstra’s NextG GSM850 service). Power comes from an internal rechargeable (with charge coming from a 460mA solar panel) or single use battery.  The A755 GPRS has been designed for rapid deployment in applications where the distance between sites, or the density of sites, precludes the use of radio communications. Load a SIM card, set up the basic communications parameters and the unit is ready for the field.

Adcon RA440 Remote A440

Adcon’s RA440, Remote A440 Wireless Modem, provides an economical way to expand a radio telemetry network. The unit combines the UHF radio capabilities of an A440 Wireless Modem with a Cellular modem, allowing it to be used as a bridge or concentrator, feeding data from a number of UHF remote telemetry units (RTUs) back via a single GPRS connection, to an A850 Telemetry Gateway.

A single A850 Gateway can service multiple AR440s, each located in a different area and servicing up to 50 RTUs. A GPRS connection takes the place of the serial connection normally made with the CAN cable between the two units. The RA440 is fitted with two antennae: one for GSM (mounted on the case) and one for the UHF radio (normally fitted to a 6m extension cable). As the RA440 can operate from either a standard Adcon solar panel, or an external 12V power source, it can be deployed in areas where mains power is not available. Up to 20 RTUs can be supported with a standard solar panel and up to 50 with an external 12V supply.
